A Message from the Director of Development
The need for philanthropic support at Wayne State University School of Medicine has never been more vital than it is today. The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs secures philanthropic support for the School of Medicine from individuals, foundations and corporations that enables the School to maintain its high level of excellence and expand promising programs. Donors make it possible for the School to provide comprehensive educational opportunities for students and world-class medical research that leads to life-saving treatment options for patients.
The reality is that medical school is expensive. In fact, the average Wayne State University medical student graduates with more than $164,000 in debt. In-state tuition and fees now exceed $30,000 annually despite efforts to make a medical education accessible to the most qualified students without regard to their financial resources. Other expenses are estimated to exceed $20,000 annually. (see estimated expenses)
To remain competitive and effective educators of tomorrow’s physicians, the WSU School of Medicine must provide state-of-the-art facilities, faculty who are leaders in their respective fields, and support for research programs that will lead to medical breakthroughs. Our office acts as the bridge between the School of Medicine and the community. Through a variety of publications and events, members of our community are informed about current initiatives, important health issues and leading-edge medical research. We hope to encourage donors and the community at large to become actively involved with the School and its mission.
Our development staff would be pleased to discuss opportunities for philanthropic support at the School of Medicine with you. In addition, they are able to present giving strategies that maximize your generosity while preserving both the intent of your gift and your personal financial plans. Cash gifts, gifts that are paid over a set number of years and planned gifts are all options available to donors. We look forward to hearing from you.
